Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James has revealed his delight after his side claimed their maiden NBA Championship crown by securing a 4-3 series success over Golden State Warriors on Sunday.

The 31-year-old played a starring role, contributing 27 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds, as the Cavs sealed a narrow 93-89 triumph in the decisive seventh game at the Oracle Arena.

Tyronn Lue’s side had been 3-1 down in the series and they have now become the first team to rally from such a deficit to claim overall glory, while also gaining revenge for the 4-2 defeat they suffered to the Warriors during the 2015 finals.

James admitted after the success that he was delighted to seal the championship and he was looking forward to celebrating with the team’s supporters upon their return to Ohio.

He told reporters: “I’m coming home with what I said I was going to do. I can’t wait to get off that plane, hold that trophy up and see all our fans at the terminal.”

Reigning champions Golden State had been the top seeds heading into the finals, after accumulating a record breaking 73 wins during the regular season, while point guard Stephen Curry claimed the league’s MVP award.

Curry conceded the loss was particularly hard to take after the team had enjoyed such a successful campaign.
He admitted: “It hurts. It wasn’t easy what we accomplished and it’s not an easy pill to swallow what we didn’t accomplish.”
