Andy King believes a win for Leicester at Liverpool on Saturday would show they are up to the task of defending their Premier League title this season.

The Foxes shocked the footballing world by winning the title last term but have struggled to build any momentum so far this season, taking four points from their opening three games.

This run has led to questions being raised about whether or not they will be able to defend their crown, with Leicester out to 51.00 to repeat the feat in 2016-17, but Claudio Ranieri’s side have the perfect chance to prove themselves at Anfield.

Saturday’s game will be the first to be played at the ground this season following the recent redevelopments made to the Main Stand and the hosts will be desperate to put on a show for their fans.

Liverpool were one of only three teams to defeat Leicester last season, with a Christian Benteke goal handing them a 1-0 win on Boxing Day.

King believes a winning return to Anfield would send a huge message to both their rivals and doubters alike, by proving that the Foxes are more than up for the fight of defending their title.

“After last season it was always going to be hard,” he said.

“After a few games, whatever we did, people were going to compare to last season and say it’s a slow start.”

“But now we have our first win, we can hopefully get up and running. Winning at Anfield would be a real statement.”

Leicester are 5.00 to win the game, with the draw 4.00 and the Reds priced as the 1.67 favourites.
