Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that he is unsure when Jack Wilshere will be able to return from his latest injury problem.

The midfielder has not played a competitive match since scoring twice in England’s 3-2 victory over Slovenia during Euro 2016 qualifying in June, with his last appearance for the Gunners coming as a substitute in last season’s FA Cup final triumph over Aston Villa.

The 23-year-old suffered a fractured fibula during pre-season and was forced to undergo surgery on the problem in September, with the initial prognosis being that he would need three months to recover.

However, Wenger has now confirmed the midfielder will not return to the first-team fold until February at the earliest.

He said: “I said February but honestly I don’t know. I let him do his recovery. It’s going slowly. Once he goes again, goes outside to train, once he is back again into sharp, hard work physically, you count five or six weeks, so at the moment he is not there yet.”

If Wilshere faces a further delay in his return to fitness then his participation with England at Euro 2016 could be in serious doubt.

The Three Lions have been drawn in Group B alongside Russia, Wales and Slovakia.

England are 13.00 to secure their first major international title since the 1966 World Cup.
