Barcelona star Andres Iniesta is adamant that their La Liga title hopes are far from over despite Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Real Sociedad which allowed arch rivals Real Madrid to take top spot.

The reigning champions slipped to only their third league defeat of the campaign as an Alex Song own goal, as well as strikes from Antoine Griezmann and David Zurutuza sealed a famous win for the hosts at the Anoeta on Saturday evening.

Lionel Messi had equalised for the Catalan giants in the first half, but Sociedad put in an inspired performance after the interval and deservedly went on to win the contest.

Real Madrid’s 3-0 home win over Elche earlier in the day had put Carlo Ancelotti’s side three points clear at the top and the initiative has now been handed to them to try and remain there for the remainder of the campaign.

And while Iniesta was disappointed with the defeat, he is certain that the title race will have more twists and turns before it is settled.

He said: “This defeat shouldn’t make us give up. We have to work hard and turn this situation around. There are many points left, and we have games against direct rivals.”

Barcelona will look to get their campaign back on track next weekend when they host relegation-threatened Almeria at the Nou Camp, while their title rivals – Atletico and Real – go head to head at the Vicente Calderon.
