Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp insists that his side can use Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg as a platform to build from as they look to climb out of the bottom three.

Dortmund have been out of sorts in the Bundesliga this season, claiming just four victories from their 16 fixtures and tasting defeat on nine occasions.

Klopp’s has been forced to rotate his squad regularly due to injuries, while the summer exit of Robert Lewandowski left the club with a big hole to fill at the point of their attack.

Despite their struggles in the league Dortmund have secured their progression through to the last-16 of the Champions League, and will face Italian champions Juventus after finishing top of the group ahead of Arsenal.

The eight time champions took the lead through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang early in the first half before ex-Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne levelled with a free-kick.

The home side restored their advantage late on in the second period through Ciro Immobile but they couldn’t hang on against the side-placed in second with Naldo powering home a late header.

The Dortmund boss felt that it was a much more positive performance from his players and singled out summer singing Immobile for praise at the full-time whistle.

Klopp said: “It has been a long time since I have seen a striker play like Ciro did.

“Our performance was good in many ways and this is something we can build on.”

Die Borussen are just one point from safety and will travel away to take on Werder Bremen on Saturday before having almost a month off for the winter break.
