Bournemouth chairman Jeff Mostyn has admitted the club must be realistic over the possibility of signing on-loan Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere on a permanent deal.

The 24-year-old agreed to link up with the Cherries, who are priced at 9.00 to be relegated, on a season-long loan during the summer as he bids to try and get his stuttering career back on track.

The midfielder broke on to the scene with Arsenal in 2008 but despite his obvious talent has featured only 105 times.

Injuries have hugely halted his progress and Arsene Wenger was happy to grant Wilshere the chance to get regular game time elsewhere this term.

Wilshere made his debut for Bournemouth when he came off the bench in the 1-0 win over West Brom on September 10. The England international has since started the last two Premier League fixtures and is settling in as a key figure in the squad.

Mostyn admitted that a permanent switch from the Emirates would be down to Wilshere and insists the south coast club must be realistic. “I think anything is possible.

The best we can do is integrate Jack into the team and help him fulfil what he wants,” Mostyn said. “Whether or not we will go beyond a season, I think everything is possible.

“You have to be realistic and Jack may well consider his home to be back at Arsenal. If that was the case then we couldn’t disagree with his decision – and the decision will be his.

“But if there is a possibility and Eddie Howe decides that he’s somebody he wants to keep, it will be up to him. “He will have to persuade [owner] Maxim Demin to unload a huge treasure chest in order to keep him. That would be the $64m question – it may even be the £64m transfer fee!”
