Burnley boss Sean Dyche believes his side’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Liverpool will give them great ‘belief’ for the rest of the season.

The Clarets secured their first three points since their return to the top flight thanks to goals from Sam Vokes and Andre Gray at Turf Moor, as they recorded their first league success over the Reds in over 40 years.

Dyche believes the result will give his side a huge psychological lift heading into the rest of the campaign as they bid to avoid a swift return to the Championship come the end of the season.

“It’s important psychologically to get your first win,” Dyche told Sky Sports.

“On the occasions that you are playing the clubs like Liverpool it’s even more important to give belief to everyone.”

The 45-year-old insists the result also shows his side deserve to be in the top flight, but he admits they will still face a tough task to survive in the division. He added: “We know we are in [the Premier League] for a reason.

It’s a big task particularly against these sides because they are excellent. “I thought in patches they were very good, very strong but we came out with a game plan that worked today.”

Burnley have been relegated in each of their two previous top-flight campaigns and they are available at 1.91 to finish in the bottom three once again this season.
