Carlo Ancelotti admits he is “confident” his Bayern Munich side will be able to progress against Arsenal when the pair meet in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The German champions, who are 4.75 to win the competition, have not been their usual slick selves so far this season and after finishing second behind Atletico Madrid in Group D they went into Monday’s draw without a seeding.

A tie with Group A winners Arsenal was the result, a side they have beaten twice in recent years in the last 16.

Although the draw did not go down too well among Gunners fans, there have been signs in recent months that Arsene Wenger’s men are starting to turn a corner and they appear to be a much tougher nut to crack this season.

In contrast, some of Bayern’s superstars appear to be on the wane and will need to be wary of the pace that Arsene Wenger’s men possess in attack.

However, Ancelotti has no doubt his side can progress and says he is already looking forward to the first leg on February 15.

“I trust my team and hope that we can reach the quarter-finals,” he told Bayern’s official website.

“They [Arsenal] are doing very well in the Premier League right now and have lost just once in the league so far this season.

“Arsenal have a very good side at the moment and a coach who I really rate. It will be tough but I am confident.”

Bayern are 1.44 to win the opening leg at the Allianz Arena, with the draw 4.33 while the Gunners are priced at 6.50.
