Celtic boss Ronny Deila hit back at calls for him to be sacked following Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat at Aberdeen and vowed that his side will win the Scottish Premiership this season.

The Norwegian tactician was already under increasing pressure following the Bhoys’ League Cup semi-final defeat by Ross County on Sunday as his side travelled to face the second-placed Dons at Pittodrie.

Jonny Hayes and Simon Church fired the hosts into a 2-0 lead and, while Leigh Griffiths pulled one back in injury time, Aberdeen held on to cut the gap to leaders Celtic to three points with 14 games remaining.

Sections of the club’s fans and TV pundits suggested that Deila should be replaced in the Celtic Park hot-seat after this latest setback.

However the 40-year-old has hit back to insist that he will guide the team to the Premiership title and the Scottish Cup, while he pleaded for unity between everyone involved in the club.

He said: “People have their different opinions but I’m confident I’m the man to do this. All big managers have problems at the start of their careers at different clubs.

“Just look at Alex Ferguson. You get through tough periods and then you are stronger.

“We are going to do this together. We are going to win this league, we are going to fight for the Scottish Cup and we are going to get stronger after this.”

Deila added: “We need to stay together. The players need their support. That’s the message.

“We are one club and everyone is working towards the same thing. The supporters have their opinions but they backed the team during the game and I really appreciate that.”
