Celtic captain Scott Brown is taking nothing for granted ahead of the second leg of their Champions League play-off round tie against Hapoel Be’er Sheva on Tuesday.

The Hoops will fancy their chances of securing progress through to the group stages of the competition after they claimed an impressive 5-2 victory over the Israeli champions in Glasgow last week.

Celtic have not reached the group stages of Europe’s premier club tournament since 2013, falling at the final hurdle against Maribor and Malmo in their last two campaigns, and so Brown is remaining cautious ahead of their trip to the Turner Stadium.

“You never know what can happen in football,” the 31-year-old said. “We need to focus on ourselves more than anything and if we do our job properly we will see what happens. We are looking forward to it.”

The Glasgow giants were 3-0 up at half-time in the first leg before Hapoel pulled the score back to 3-2, but the Bhoys responded with two late goals to restore their three-goal advantage and Brown believes they showed a renewed level of character during the match.

“It was a great game at Celtic Park, the first half was exceptional.

The previous two seasons we may have been happy with 3-2 but went on and scored a couple more,” he added.

“We showed we are a great attacking team and we are defending well as a team.”

Brendan Rodgers’ men are available at 3.00 to secure a victory in the second leg while Hapoel are on offer at 2.30 and the draw is priced at 3.50.
