Celtic head coach Ronny Deila says a regular first-team role sooner rather than later is a real possibility for new signing Saidy Janko.

The 19-year-old Swiss has joined the Bhoys on a four-year contract from Manchester United, having made just one first-team appearance for the Red Devils, and ended last season out on loan with Bolton Wanderers.

However, Deila is pleased to have landed the promising young defender and has challenged Janko to show what he can do in pre-season training.

He told the Daily Record: “Saidy is a young player we want to develop, he’s a talented full-back.

“Saidy has to show himself in training like everyone else, but the road to the first team is there if he shows himself to be the best.”

Meanwhile, Deila has played down the minor knocks picked up by Mikael Lustig and Stuart Armstrong during the 2-0 friendly win over Den Bosch, with both players being replaced at half-time.

Lustig reported a tightness in his groin and Armstrong sustained a dead leg, but Deila was not too concerned about either player, with the Bhoys less than two weeks away from the beginning of their competitive campaign.

The Scottish champions take on FC Stjarnan in the second qualifying round of the Champions League, with the first leg at Celtic Park scheduled for Wednesday July 15 and the return in Iceland a week later.

The league campaign for the Bhoys starts on the first day of August with a visit from Ross County and Celtic, chasing a fifth straight title, can be backed at 1.03 to win the Scottish Premiership again.
