Tom Rogic admitted it was a special feeling to score his first Celtic goal on home soil against St Johnstone on Saturday.

The Australia midfielder scored what turned out to be the decisive strike against the Perth side after Leigh Griffiths had cancelled out an early own-goal from Dedryck Boyata.

Charlie Mulgrew added a third Celtic goal in the second half as the Scottish champions went top of the table with early pacesetters Hearts losing at Hamilton.

Rogic felt the win was important following the midweek disappointment in Malmo.

“It was just important to put that [Malmo result] behind us,” he said.

“We have to move on and just learn from it and get better. It’s behind us now and we’re looking forward now.

“It’s special to score in front of the fans and I’m sure I won’t forget it. That was pleasing as well so I’m happy.”

Boss Ronny Deila deployed the 22-year-old just behind Griffiths in a roving role against St Johnstone and it was something Rogic clearly relished, repeatedly darting in behind the visitors defence to cause havoc.

He says he is happy to play any role the manager asks of him.

“I feel comfortable anywhere in the middle of the park, whether it’s there or a little bit deeper,” he said. “I’m just happy to be in the team and helping them.”

Rogic will now join the Socceroos squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Bangladesh and Tajikistan.

Scotland meanwhile face a challenging trip to Georgia on Friday in their Euro 2016 Group D qualifier. Gordon Strachan’s team are 2.00 to win the game with Georgia 4.20 and the draw in Tbilisi 3.20.
