Brighton manager Chris Hughton insists he is excited to get to work with new signing Jose Izquierdo following his club-record move from Club Brugge.

The Seagulls have broken their transfer record on three occasions this summer as they plot for an extended stay in the Premier League following promotion from the Championship.

Goalkeeper Mathew Ryan signed for £5.4million before Brighton splashed £11.7million for Davy Propper earlier in the summer.

Brighton have now drafted in Colombia international Izquierdo for £13.5million after being granted a UK work visa.

Izquierdo has been handed a contract which runs until June 2021 and the south-coast club will be hoping to build on his 15 league goals for Club Brugge last season.

Hughton has labelled Izquierdo as “one of the standout players” in Belgium over the last three years and insists he is excited to get to work with the 25-year-old.

“This has been a very complex deal, but I am absolutely delighted we are finally in a position to confirm it is completed,” Hughton said.

“He’s a very exciting player to watch, and along with that excitement, he will bring pace and creativity to the team; he also has an excellent goalscoring record.”

Brighton have lost their opening two Premier League games 2-0 to Manchester City and Leicester respectively, but they can be backed at 4.00 to claim a first win when they travel to face Watford, who are priced at 2.00 to come out on top on Saturday, while the draw is available at 3.50.
