Norwich have bolstered their attacking options by signing Chelsea forward Patrick Bamford on loan for the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old cut short a similar temporary switch to Crystal Palace earlier in the campaign, after finding first-team opportunities hard to come by at Selhurst Park.

The England under-21 international made just two starts for the Eagles in the Capital One Cup, with his only action in the Premier League coming as a substitute.

The forward did enjoy a more impressive loan spell at Middlesbrough last season, where he scored 17 goals in 38 appearances and was voted Championship player of the year, and Norwich boss Alex Neil is hoping the youngster can recapture that form during his time at Carrow Road.

He said: “Patrick is a player who excelled last season and we are pleased to have the opportunity to bring him in. He’s a young forward determined to make his way in the game, and adds competition for us at the top end of the pitch.”

Bamford becomes the Canaries sixth signing of the January transfer window, following the arrivals of Ivo Pinto, Ben Godfrey, Timm Klose and Steven Naismith, as well as the permanent addition of Matt Jarvis following a successful loan spell.

The Canaries are currently 17th in the Premier League standings, two points clear of the relegation zone ahead of Tuesday’s home clash with title-chasing Tottenham.

Neil’s side are available at 4.20 to win the match, whilst Spurs are on offer at 1.91 and the draw is priced at 3.60.
