Chelsea striker Loic Remy has played down fears over a groin injury picked up against Maribor and believes he will be fit enough to face Manchester United.

The France international was on target as the Blues hammered Maribor 6-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night but he picked up a problem during the match and had to leave the field.

Jose Mourinho admitted after the game there is a chance that Remy could miss Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford, but he would wait to hear the results of the scan.

Remy is also facing an anxious wait but seems to have a gut feeling that he will be fit to face the Red Devils.

“We will see with the scan,” Remy said. “I really hope it is not too bad. Fortunately I stopped playing because I felt something.

“I don’t think it is too bad but I felt something. My groin. Yes, it’s frustrating of course because I had a chance to play because Costa is injured but I am not afraid.

“I don’t think it is really bad. We will check and I really hope to play again this weekend.

“It is a huge game but every game is tough. Especially this one because it is a big game against a good opponent but I will try to recover as quickly as possible.”

Chelsea are already without the injured Diego Costa, who has a hamstring problem, so the loss of Remy would come as another big blow to Mourinho.

Didier Drogba was also on the scoresheet against Maribor and will lead the attack if Remy is ruled out.
