Blackburn midfielder Corry Evans is hopeful his side can secure a second successive victory when they take on Sheffield Wednesday at Ewood Park on Saturday.

The match will be new boss Paul Lambert’s first home game in charge of Rovers and he will be keen to build on the 2-1 victory against Preston at Deepdale last weekend.

The victory moved Blackburn to within eight points of the play-off places, but they have not recorded back-to-back league wins since March and Evans knows his side must buck that trend if they are to mount a serious push towards the top six.

He said: “We’ve had too many draws this season and in this league draws aren’t that much of a use. You need the three points. It would be nice to win this week and make it back-to-back victories for the first time this season.”

The Northern Ireland international believes there is a feel-good factor surrounding the club following Lambert’s arrival and he is hopeful it can help inspire the team to victory against the Owls.

He added: “That was always going to be the case when a new manager comes in as it gives everyone a lift, the fans included.”

Rovers are now unbeaten in their last four Championship matches and they recorded a 2-1 victory over Wednesday when the two sides last met at Hillsborough in March.

Blackburn are the 2.30 favourites to secure another victory on Saturday, the Owls are on offer at 3.30 and the draw is 3.20.
