Crystal Palace have completed the signings of Jordon Mutch and Shola Ameobi as Alan Pardew looks to strengthen his squad for the second half of the campaign.

Mutch has penned a four-and-a-half year deal at Selhurst Park for an undisclosed fee just six months after joining Premier League rivals QPR, who are priced at 1.75 to be relegated.

The 23-year-old made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Loftus Road outfit after leaving Cardiff following their relegation at the end of last season.

The former England under-21 international could get his first start on Saturday as the Eagles are still without skipper Mile Jedinak, who is at the Asian Cup representing Australia.

Meanwhile, Ameobi has agreed to link up with the Premier League side until the end of the season after being released by Turkish side Gaziantep in December.

The 33-year-old scored 53 times during his time in the English top-flight with Newcastle and will provide some experience to a youthful looking attack.

The striker admitted that his relationship with Pardew played a big role in convincing him to join with a number of other clubs also expressing an interest.

Ameobi said: “I’m very excited to be here, I wanted to get back in the Premier League and having worked with the manager before it’s been great to come back and hopefully help us avoid the relegation battle.

“I had a couple of other clubs interested but I think my relationship with Alan [Pardew] and how much I enjoyed working with him was one of the big factor in my decision.

“He instils confidence in players and he always seems to get the best out of them, certainly he did that at Newcastle and hopefully he can do that for me and the rest of the lads here.”
