Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has admitted he wants to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of his current deal that expires in the summer.

The 36-year-old is enjoying a second spell with the Blues after leaving in 2012 on a free transfer following the Champions League victory over Bayern Munich.

The powerful Ivorian went on to play for Shanghai Shenhua in China and Turkish giants Galatasaray before heading back to west London last summer on a 12-month contract.

Drogba is now playing second fiddle to Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge and is no longer a first-team regular but is still eager to agree a new contract.

Speaking at a Gala Tribute evening after being honoured by the Football Writers’ Association for his outstanding contribution to the game, Drogba said: “When you have achieved so much and won so many trophies like we have done in the past 10 years, that creates something special.

“I hope, and the club makes me believe, I am part of this big family, so we are going to find the best thing for both of us to promote the club in the best way.

“When I left this club, I was saying that I had done everything I wanted to do, but I think now that I did not do everything, I think there is more to do.

“I love this club and would love to be part of this club for the future, with the new players.”

Drogba will now be hoping to go on and help Chelsea secure silverware this season, with the Blues 7.50 to win the Champions League for a second time.
