Southampton attacking midfielder Dusan Tadic wants to see an improvement from his side following a below-par start to the campaign.

The Saints have only taken one point from their opening two matches of the new Premier League season, following up a 1-1 home draw against Watford with a 2-0 defeat at Manchester United on Friday night.

Serbia international Tadic was disappointed with his side’s display at Old Trafford and believes the entire team must improve quickly if they are to secure a fourth straight top-eight finish.

“We are disappointed,” he said. “I think we need to improve a lot of things.

We should play much better. In everything, in defending together, in attacking together. Everyone, we need to be on a better level.”

The 27-year-old hopes the team’s improvement can begin this Saturday when Saints host Sunderland at St Mary’s.

“We just want to see what is good and what is not good [from the United game], and try now to win the game against Sunderland,” he added. “This is most important.”

Southampton are unbeaten in their last three home matches against the Black Cats, including an 8-0 win in October 2014, a game in which Tadic scored.

Claude Puel’s men are available at 1.60 to win Saturday’s contest while the Wearsiders are on offer at 6.00 and the draw is priced at 3.80.
