Argentina coach Edgardo Bauza expects Lionel Messi to remain with Barcelona for the foreseeable future.

Messi is due to fall out of contract at Camp Nou in 2018 and there has been speculation either Manchester City, managed by ex-Barca boss Pep Guardiola, or Paris Saint-Germain could test the Catalan giants’ resolve with a mammoth bid.

Bauza insists Messi’s club future is not his concern but he does feel the forward will remain at Barcelona rather than be tempted by a move to another European league.

“I can see just how happy he is at Barcelona with his family around him,” Bauza told AFP.

“Of course when Leo is happy that helps him give his best performance, morale is crucial for form.

“A footballer is happy when he is playing and winning, otherwise he is rarely happy.” He added: “At Barcelona, Manchester City or wherever, that’s his decision to take.

I just want him to play and that’s all. “He’s the type of player who always wants to be on the pitch, never wants a rest.”

Barcelona trail Paris Saint-Germain 4-0 ahead of the second leg of their last 16 Champions League clash on March 8.

Barca are 17.00 to win the match 4-0 or 34.00 to claim a 5-0 success as they bid to keep their European hopes alive.

Argentina are 9.50 to win the World Cup 2018 in Russia, while Spain are rated at 10.00.
