England boss Roy Hodgson is facing an anxious wait ahead of his World Cup squad announcement after Phil Jones picked up an injury.

The Manchester United defender was forced off with a shoulder problem in the first-half during the 3-1 over Hull on Tuesday night.

Jones injured his left shoulder after colliding with Maynor Figueroa as he tried to score from a corner.

The former Blackburn Rovers star was expected to make Hodgson’s 23-man England squad, but he could face a fitness battle after his latest setback.

The 22-year-old left Old Trafford with his arm in a sling as he went to hospital, but the extent of the damage is not yet known.

Speaking after the game, Ryan Giggs told Sky Sports: “He has gone off to hospital to see what it was. I’m not sure if his shoulder came out or not.

“Hopefully he’ll be OK. It’s too near to say what the condition is.”

Hodgson is set to name his 30-man squad on Monday before England begin preparations ahead of the tournament in Brazil.

The Three Lions, who can be backed at odds of 30.00 to win the World Cup with Dafabet, will benefit from having Jones amongst their ranks.

Despite a poor season domestically, he can play a number of positions across defence and midfield, and Hodgson will be hoping he can name him in his squad.
