Erik Lamela says he wants to be the next Tottenham player to sign a new deal with the White Hart Lane club.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has been busy securing the long-term futures of some of his key players in recent times. Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Kyle Walker all signed improved terms with Spurs in recent weeks.

Lamela initially signed a five-year contract when completing his £30m move from Serie A side Roma in 2013 but, with two years still to run, he is already looking to extend his stay in north London.

The 24-year-old insists he is more than happy at Tottenham in a squad that is united. “I would like to [sign a new deal] because I am very happy here,” he told the Evening Standard.

“I feel part of this team which is improving. I have a group of excellent team-mates and I feel very good around them.”

Spurs were title challengers behind Leicester last season before finishing disappointingly and dropping into third place behind bitter rivals Arsenal.

While Lamela is making no secret of his desire to stay, he says the main focus right now is continuing the strong start to the season that sees Spurs sitting one point off top spot after nine games.

“It would make me happy to play for more years in this shirt. Will I be the next to sign? Let’s hope so. At the moment I am thinking only of playing and about Saturday’s game against Leicester,” he added.

Spurs are 1.62 to beat Leicester on Saturday while Pochettino’s outfit are 11.00 to be crowned champions this season.
