Everton captain Phil Jagielka expects new signing Tom Cleverley to fit in quickly at Goodison Park and become a big hit with the Toffees’ faithful.

The 25-year-old England international midfielder left Manchester United to head to Goodison, having finished last season out on loan at Aston Villa, who he helped reach the FA Cup final.

And Jagielka is backing Cleverley to build on the form he showed at Villa when he runs out for his new club next season, with his transition helped by the fact that he worked under boss Roberto Martinez during a previous loan stint with Wigan Athletic.

England centre-half Jagielka told his club’s official website: “He’s a really good addition. He’s really excited to come here because it is a fresh start for him.

“He proved a lot of people wrong at Aston Villa and I’m sure he will have a big part to play next season.

“He played in an FA Cup final not too long ago and he’s got quite a few England caps as well, so he has a lot of experience for a young man.”

Cleverley is one of two major arrivals so far at Everton this summer, with former loanee Gerard Deulofeu having returned to the club on a permanent basis from Barcelona.

And the pair will hope to help Everton improve on their standing of last season, when they finished in 11th place in the Premier League.

However, Martinez’s men headed into their summer break in relatively good heart, having won six of their final ten games of the league campaign and they are 1.67 to open the 2015/16 season with a win at home to newly-promoted Watford.
