New signing Samuel Eto’o will provide an extra ‘fear factor’ for Everton this season after joining on Tuesday, according to manager Roberto Martinez.

Eto’o was a free agent after being released by Chelsea at the end of last season and Martinez was quick to take advantage of the situation by handing the 33-year-old a two-year deal.

The Cameroon international could be in line to make his debut against his former club on Saturday when Jose Mourinho’s side travel to Goodison Park.

Martinez has been keen to add some extra attacking options to his squad and the former Barcelona man will provide some further competition for Romelu Lukaku, who agreed a permanent move from Chelsea this summer.

The Spaniard believes Eto’o will give the Toffees an unpredictable edge for the season ahead as they look to fight out in the Premier League and the Europa League.

Martinez said: “When you see him on the team sheet you know the unpredictable play he has. Now we can enjoy the talent and that fear factor from Samuel.”

The former Wigan boss revealed that Eto’o had a number of lucrative offers from other clubs but made a “football decision” to commit his future to the Merseyside outfit.

He added: “His emotional state and mental focus was impressive.

“There is a real desire and hunger to achieve. He’s desperate to create good moments in the British game.”

Everton can be backed at 3.52 to beat Chelsea who are 2.06 to pick up the win at Goodison Park this weekend.
