Gonzalo Higuain has praised the hunger of his Juventus side after they extended their lead at the top of Serie A courtesy of Saturday’s 1-0 win over Roma.

The Argentine scored the only goal of the game as the Bianconeri moved seven points clear of the Giallorossi in the standings and they now look well on course to claim a record sixth successive Scudetto crown.

Higuain joined Juve in the summer from Napoli, citing his desire to win trophies as the main reason for switching to one of his former club’s historical rivals.

Despite questions about his conditioning, El Pipita has not disappointed, netting 13 times in all competitions to also help Massimiliano Allegri’s side qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.

Injuries have made it hard at times this season for Juventus, with Allegri again having to field a makeshift side against Roma.

Higuain though believes the performance showed just how desperate his side still are to win trophies, admitting he has been inspired by the passion that exists in the dressing room, even after tasting so much success in recent years.

“The hunger they still have to win [has struck me],” he told Rai Sport. “They are a team who have won the League five years in a row but they still have a crazy hunger to win.

“It makes me want to continue winning and doing well. Juve are a very strong team from a mental point of view.”

It looks set to be another successful year domestically for the Old Lady in 2017, while they are also currently 13.00 to win the Champions League, with Barcelona the 4.20 favourites.
