Midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson believes Swansea remain on course for a top-half finish in the Premier League this season, despite their recent stuttering form.

Garry Monk’s side begun the campaign well, garnering eight points from their first four matches in a run that included a draw at champions Chelsea and a home victory over north-west giants Manchester United.

However, their recent form has been less than impressive as the Swans have claimed only two points from their last four league matches, and they now sit down in 11th place in the table after eight games.

Sunday’s 2-2 draw at home to in-form Tottenham was a good result for the players to build on, however, and Sigurdsson insists Swansea are good enough to go on and claim at least a top-10 finish this term.

He told the club’s website: “After recent performances we were desperate to get three points. We started the season really well but we have not been like ourselves the last three or four performances.

“We have dropped points, which is going to happen in the season, and there is still a long way to go but if we play our style of football we will be in the top half of the table.”

Following the current international break, the Liberty Stadium outfit entertain Stoke City on October 19 (Swansea 2.00, Stoke 3.80, draw 3.30) and are on offer at 41.00 to secure what looks like an unlikely top-four finish.
