Hull defender Curtis Davies is hoping he can retain his place in the starting eleven as the club continues to fight against relegation from the Premier League.

The 32-year-old returned to action from eight weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury last time out against Everton.

Davies made up part of a three-man defence 10 days ago in the 4-0 loss to the Toffees at Goodison Park and he is hoping he can hold on to that spot.

However, the defender was taken off after 64 minutes with Hull, who are priced at 1.44 to be relegated, trailing just 1-0 as Marco Silva brought on the more attacking Kamil Grosicki.

The former Birmingham man insists he was pleased to go straight back into the squad and hopes he can hold on to his position with other team mates also coming back into contention.

Michael Dawson’s return to fitness means Silva has a full complement of central defenders ahead of big games with West Ham and Middlesbrough.

Davies said: “I was delighted to be back. “I hadn’t been expected to play so soon but I was happy the manager brought me in.

“I felt comfortable after the first 15 minutes, when I needed to get my second wind. I felt good and wish I could have stayed on the pitch.

“Obviously, for tactical reasons, the manager decided to throw on a winger (Kamil Grosicki) and I can totally understand that. But I hope I can play the next game and help keep the team in this league.”
