Wolfsburg winger Julian Draxler has confirmed that he wants to leave the Bundesliga club this summer.

The Germany international only moved to the Volkswagen Arena from Schalke last August, signing a five-year deal, and club director Klaus Allofs insisted last month that the 22-year-old would be remaining with Die Wolfe.

Draxler has denied those claims, however, revealing that he does intend to leave Dieter Hecking’s side this summer, and the club have known about his desire to move since Germany’s exit from Euro 2016 on July 7.

“The situation with me is that I made it clear to (head coach) Dieter Hecking after we were knocked out of Euro 2016 in the semi-final that I would like to leave Wolfsburg,” he said.

“The coach has known about this for three weeks. It’s very surprising that they have been talking about me to the media for weeks.”

The highly-rated youngster is believed to be a transfer target for Premier League outfit Arsenal, and insists that Wolfsburg always promised to let him leave the club if a top European side made an approach for his services.

He continued: “When I joined, I was assured – verbally – that I could leave the club whenever the opportunity arose. Both Hecking and (sporting director) Klaus Allofs said this.

“It was clear that Wolfsburg had good prospects, but also that they were a springboard for me.

“It was always clear to everybody that I would like to join a top club in Europe, if I were to get the chance.”
