Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta says the club remain hopeful that Carlos Tevez will sign a contract extension this summer.

The talented but temperamental forward’s current deal runs out in June
2016 and he has previously hinted that he would like to return to his homeland Argentina to see out his career with boyhood club Boca Juniors.

However, Juve’s success in winning both the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia this season, as well as reaching next month’s Champions League final, has prompted speculation he could be persuaded to stay in Italy.

Although his workrate on the pitch has always made him popular amongst the fans of the sides he has played for, the 31-year-old has often clashed with coaches and directors. Perhaps the most famous of these incidents came in 2011-12 when he fell out with Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini and spent half of the season back home in Argentina.

Juventus are of course keen to keep the striker, with his quality being one of the key reasons behind their improvement this season and despite his age, he still seems to have plenty of time left at the top.

Marotta has now confirmed the club plan to speak to Tevez about a new deal after the Champions League final. However, the board member admits he is unsure what the outcome of the negotiations will be.

“We’ll meet with him after the Champions League final,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport. “We want him to stay, but now the ball is in his court.”

Ahead of next month’s clash in Berlin with Barcelona, Juve are currently priced at 5.50 to win, with the draw 3.75 and the Catalans the 1.60 favourites.
