Striker Daniel Sturridge believes he should be fit and ready to take on his former club Chelsea this weekend as Liverpool look to take another step towards Premier League glory.

The England international has been a revelation since joining the Reds from Chelsea, who have been left wanting in the forward department this season.

Sturridge was missing from his side’s 3-2 victory over Norwich City last weekend after picking up a hamstring injury but the forward is edging closer to a return.

The former Blue is hoping manager Brendan Rodgers will call him back into the starting XI when Liverpool host Jose Mourinho’s men at Anfield on Sunday.

He said: “Hopefully this weekend I’ll be back.

“I’m not too sure if he’ll play me or not. We’ll have to see.”

Liverpool will have to hold their nerve against Chelsea this weekend, with so much pressure and expectation for the Reds to get over the line and end their long wait for a league title.

With encounters against Crystal Place at Selhurst Park and Newcastle United at Anfield, Sunday’s game poses the biggest test for the Reds between now and the end of the campaign.

Chelsea boss Mourinho has suggested he could be tempted to field a weakened side for the encounter with Liverpool, as the Portuguese tactician has one eye on the Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid next week.

Liverpool are 1.63 to win, 3.92 to draw and 4.97 to lose to Mourinho’s Chelsea at Anfield.
