Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says that his side produced their best performance in the 2-2 draw with West Brom on Monday night.

The Red Devils came from behind twice to secure a point, leaving them sixth in the Premier League table.

Stephane Sessegnon’s well-placed 18-yard strike put the Baggies ahead just eight minutes into the match, and Alan Irvine’s side went into the half-time break ahead.

Minutes after coming on at the restart, Marouane Fellaini levelled the scoreline with his first United goal after taking down Angel Di Maria’s cross and smashing a strike beyond Boaz Myhill in the West Brom goal.

Young striker Saido Berahino scored his sixth goal of the season as he raced through the United defence, and finished with a low strike, to restore the home side’s lead.

United’s saviour came from an unlikely goalscorer in the shape of Dutch international Daley Blind. The 24-year-old fired in an effort from 20 yards with three minutes of normal time remaining and United went on to claim a point.

After the game, Van Gaal said: “I’m disappointed because we played our best match of the season and the result is not good enough.
“We could have won but that does not count in our world.”

United are now three games unbeaten and have a point more than this time last season, but they are yet to record an away victory this campaign.

The Red Devils face their toughest test yet when league leaders Chelsea visit Old Trafford on Sunday, with the home side 2.76 to get three points.
