Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo has announced that he has broken his foot and will be out for “a few months”.

The Spaniard picked up the injury in a friendly against Hearts on Friday, and he broke the news on his Instagram account on Monday.

He limped off before half-time during City’s 2-1 win and scans have now revealed the extent of the injury.

Negredo showed a picture of his right foot in a protective boot but he is determined to bounce back and help the club later this season.

Confirming the news, he said: “I want to let you know that its going to be hard for the next few months. I fractured my 5th metatarsal and will be out a few months.

“I will be back stronger than ever. I will return with a vengeance.”

The injury will be a blow to City boss Manuel Pellegrini’s plans this season as he tries to retain the Premier League title.

Negredo has been linked with a move away from the club this summer but the former Sevilla man has denied any reports that he will leave.

He missed out on Spain’s World Cup squad for Brazil but did show off his talents last season, scoring 23 goals for City in all competitions.

The striker worked well alongside Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko at times and he will hoping to return quickly to help them lift more silverware in the upcoming campaign.

After winning the Premier League last season, City are currently 3.00 with Dafabet to repeat the feat in 2014-15.
