Summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan says a desire to secure silverware was crucial in his decision to swap Borussia Dortmund for Manchester United.

The Armenian forward moved to Old Trafford at the start of the month as BVB decided to sanction a sale rather than allow him to depart as a free agent at the end of his contract next summer.

Mkhitaryan is one of three new arrivals at United so far this summer, along with striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and defender Eric Bailly.

New boss Jose Mourinho is expected to oversee an overhaul this summer as he bids to turn the Premier League giants back into title contenders after a disappointing fifth place finish last term, and Mkhitaryan is convinced his new side will be in the mix for honours in the coming campaign.

“It’s a very good opportunity to play for United,” the 27-year-old said a press conference. “Manchester are one of the biggest clubs. “I am very happy and I will try to do my best to help us win.

We will try to do everything to win titles. It will be difficult but let’s hope we can have a good preparation and then we will see.”

United are 1.73 to win their Premier League opener at Bournemouth on August 14 and 4.50 to win the Premier League outright.

A top four finish will be Mourinho’s minimum target in his debut campaign and the Old Trafford outfit are 1.40 to secure a top four spot.

United did claim the FA Cup last season and they are 7.50 to successfully defend the title, with Arsenal 8.50 and Premier League champions Leicester priced at 21.00.
