Manchester United have ramped up their summer transfer business by completing a double deal on Monday for midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Red Devils, who are priced at 6.00 to win the Premier League, have been linked with a whole host of midfield options since the end of the 2014-15 campaign, which saw them secure Champions League football by finishing fourth.

Manager Louis van Gaal has made no secret of his need to add reinforcements to his squad and has already drafted in Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian.

However, many were critical of United’s midfield last term and Van Gaal has added the duo to provide further options as they look to secure some silverware.

Schweinsteiger has agreed a three-year deal after signing from Bayern Munich for a reported £14.4million, while Schneiderlin arrives from Southampton on a four-year contract for a fee in the region of £25million.

The duo are set to link up with the rest of the squad for a flight to the USA on Monday as they travel away for a pre-season tour.

Schweinsteiger, who becomes the first German to play for the club, lifted the World Cup with Germany a year ago to the day of his new deal and insists he is ready for a new challenge.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bayern Munich, it has been an incredible journey and I didn’t take the decision to leave lightly,” he said. “Manchester United is the only club that I would have left Munich for.

“I feel ready for this new and exciting challenge in what I regard as the most competitive league in the world and I am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal again.”

Schneiderlin also admitted that he was excited at the prospect of linking up with his new team-mates and revealed he did not have to think long before making up his mind to join the club.

“I am delighted to be a Manchester United player,” he enthused. “Once I learned that United were interested in signing me, it was a very easy decision to make.”
