Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini insists his side remain in the title race despite slipping off the pace set by Chelsea.

City have been slow starters this term and have only won one game in their last six in all competitions as they head into a crucial period.

The defending champions will take on in-form Swansea this weekend before hosting Bayern Munich as they look to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

A lack of consistency and some under-performing stars has seen City fall eight points adrift of Chelsea – just 11 games in – and already looking second best.

Chelsea managed to hold Pellegrini’s side to a draw at the Etihad and are now the firm favourites to claim the Premier League crown.

Despite facing an uphill battle on a number of fronts, the Chilean remains optimistic that his men can still pose a threat.

Pellegrini said: “There are a lot of games to play in the Premier League and Champions League.

“We have 27 more games to play and there are a lot of points (to be contested), so we will see at the end who will be the best team this year.”

City can be backed at 1.38 to kick start their season against Garry Monk’s side on Saturday with the Welsh outfit priced at 7.06 to win.
