Manchester United manager David Moyes has denied suggestions that his team has lost their fear factor since Sir Alex Ferguson left the role at Old Trafford.
The defending Premier League champions find themselves eight points off the top after being held to a 1-1 draw by high-flying Southampton on Saturday. The result means United have only won one of their four home games in the league so far this season.
Speaking after the match, Moyes said: “Sir Alex Ferguson has a great history and his experience will always work in charge of any team.
“But the fear comes from the team on the pitch.
“The players have always been the people that have to turn out and do it.”
United started well against the Saints, with Robin van Persie’s first-half goal giving his side the lead. However, Southampton captain Adam Lallana stunned the hosts with a late goal to seal a point.
The Premier League champions had been hoping to build some momentum following their come-from-behind win over Sunderland last time out, while they had gone into the game buoyed by the news that rising star Adnan Januzaj had committed his future to the club.
David Moyes’ men will now have to regroup ahead of an important run of home fixtures, hosting Real Sociedad in the Champions League on Wednesday evening before Stoke visit Old Trafford next weekend ahead of a Capital One Cup fourth-round clash against Norwich.
