New Zealand striker Chris Wood is hopeful of being able to play his best football after sealing a move to Leeds United from Leicester City.

The 23-year-old front man has penned a three-year contract with the Yorkshire outfit and has set his sights on trying to return the Whites to the top-flight of English football.

He told BBC Radio Leeds: “I did my research, looked behind the scenes and spoke to the owner and I think the club is on the right path. Ultimately, I want to be in the Premier League and that’s where I want to take Leeds.

“I’ve got the confidence that my best years are ahead of me. I want to be hitting my peak now and I feel like I can do that here.”

Wood started his career at West Brom, before joining the Foxes in January 2013, but he drifted out of the first-team picture at Leicester last season and ended the campaign out on loan at Ipswich Town.

Meanwhile, Elland Road boss Uwe Rosler has rubbished rumours linking wing-back Sam Byram with a move away from the club, following talk of interest from a number of Premier League sides.

He added: “I don’t know where the rumours come from. Nobody has spoken to us at the football club. There have not been any approaches lately that I’m aware of.”

Leeds finished down in 15th place in the Championship table last season, before bringing in Rosler to try and engineer an upturn in fortunes in the coming campaign.

The Whites are 10.00 to win promotion next season, while they are 29.00 to secure the Championship title.
