Manchester United target Pedro Rodriguez has hinted he could leave Barcelona in a bid to play regular football.

The 28-year-old came through the ranks at the Camp Nou and has won five La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues during his time at the club.

However, the signings of Neymar and Luis Suarez have seen him have to settle for a place on the bench over the last few years and reports on Tuesday suggested he had asked to leave.

United, who are 6.50 to win the Premier League, have emerged as the favourites for his signature, as boss Louis van Gaal looks to add further quality to his squad, with Marca even suggesting a deal could be done by Wednesday.

Pedro was again a substitute in Tuesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Sevilla but came off the bench to score the decisive goal in a thrilling 5-4 extra-time win in Tbilisi.

After the match, the 28-year-old was coy on his future, insisting he was happy at Barca, while also hinting that regular football could be too much to turn down.

“It’s a question of continuity, of minutes. I’m an ambitious player.

Stay or go, I will always be of this team,” he is quoted as saying by the Daily Star. “I’m calm, happy and I will always continue giving everything if I continue at this club.

“Manchester? Yes, there are nice challenges on all sides.

“Today I’m here and I’m happy. And if I go I will go with my head held high having always given everything.”

If the deal does go through this week, Pedro could make his debut on Friday at Aston Villa, a game United are 1.67 favourites to win, with the draw at 3.75 and the Villans available at 5.50.
