Pep Guardiola was in no mood for negativity despite Manchester City’s EFL Cup loss at Manchester United ensuring the longest winless streak of his managerial career.

The Spaniard is without victory in six games since City lost their perfect record in last month’s Champions League draw at Celtic.

They have since lost to Spurs and drawn with Everton and Southampton in the league while they also lost away at Barcelona in the Champions League before bowing out of the League Cup at Old Trafford.

It may be a worrying run of form for most people but the City boss insisted he was “proud” after his much-changed side went down fighting in the latest Manchester derby.

“I am so proud of our performance, congratulations to United, but I am so proud of our young players and how we played,” he said.

“(Pablo) Maffeo was amazing, fighting with (Marcus) Rashford and (Paul) Pogba and he won almost all the duels. I am so proud, we are happy.”

Guardiola says City must keep their focus, with Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup prospects still ahead of them. He will take his team to West Brom on Saturday looking to gain a first victory since September 24.

Whether or not club captain Vincent Kompany plays at the Hawthorns remains to be seen, as Guardiola says the Belgian was subbed at half-time against United at his own request.

“He told me he could not play anymore,” the Spaniard said of his 30-year-old central defender. Manchester City are 1.44 to win against West Brom while they are 9.00 to come away with a 3-0 success.
