Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard insists the club are close to winning silverware under manager Jurgen Klopp.

Gerrard has begun a new chapter in his life as a coach and is now the club’s Under-18’s boss after ending his playing career with a spell at LA Galaxy.

The former England international has worked closely with Klopp since his return and he believes the German can deliver the goods at Anfield.

The Reds finished fourth last season under the former Borussia Dortmund coach and they are priced at 1.91 to do the same next year.

Although they finished 17 points behind title winners Chelsea, Gerrard believes the club are progressing well under the German.

“We have got a fantastic manager at the helm. I think Liverpool are very, very close,” Gerrard told BT Sport.

“If you look at the statistics in the top six, they are the best team in terms of head-to-head.

“Liverpool know where they need to improve and it is the consistency against the teams that are maybe in the bottom half of the table, the teams that sit narrow and compact and are difficult to break down.

“Hopefully we can get the two or three pieces of the jigsaw that are missing. I am really confident Liverpool can keep moving forward and success can be just round the corner.”

With some expected fresh blood arriving this summer, Liverpool could challenge for the league title and they are priced at odds of 11.00 to win the title.
