Swansea midfielder Leroy Fer says his side must focus on their own results now their Premier League fate is in their own hands.

The Swans win over Everton last time out, coupled with Hull’s home defeat to Sunderland, saw the Welsh side move out of the bottom three and means they will retain their Premier League status if they win their final two games.

Swansea head to Sunderland on Saturday and, as Hull are not in action until Sunday, a win would see them move four points clear of the drop zone.

Swansea are 4.33 to be relegated and Hull are priced at 1.22. Dutch midfielder Fer feels it is vital his side secure a win this weekend and urged his team-mates to focus on their own results as they look to avoid the drop to the Championship.

“We go into the next two games with a lot of momentum and in a position where we know our Premier League status is in our hands,” he told the club’s official website.

“That’s the best situation for us. We know if we do what we need to do then we don’t have to look over our shoulder.” Swansea have 35 points and Hull 34 ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.

Fer is well aware that a win at Sunderland will increase the pressure on the Tigers, who are at Crystal Palace on Sunday, but he expects a battle at the Stadium of Light despite the fact the Black Cats have already been relegated.

“If we win that game then the pressure is all on Hull,” he added. “But we must focus on ourselves first and foremost.

“Sunderland showed last week against Hull that they are a proud team that will keep on battling and fighting for their fans.” Swansea are 1.85 to win at Sunderland on Saturday.
