West Bromwich Albion coach Tony Pulis has revealed his belief that Liverpool have the ability needed to win the Premier League title this season following their 2-1 win over the Baggies on Saturday evening.

The Reds, 4.50 to win the title, went joint top of the league table for the time being thanks to another solid performance on home soil.

Sadio Mane opened the scoring after a lovely cross from Brazilian Roberto Firmino, before Philippe Coutinho made it two with a powerful drive.

Baggies defender Gareth McAuley scored late on to deny Jurgen Klopp’s men top spot, with goal difference putting them behind Arsenal on 20 points.

Liverpool’s win extended their unbeaten run to nine matches in all competitions and Pulis was quick to praise Klopp’s side.

“Their front five are as good as anything in the league,” he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“They have got a free run at it this year. They are not in Europe, which is draining.

“Last time [that was the case] they came close with Brendan [Rodgers], he had a free run. This team has a chance.”

The former Stoke manager was also pleased with his team’s effort on Saturday but he admitted they needed more quality throughout the 90 minutes.

He added: “We are disappointed first half. At 2-0 down you are staring down a barrel.

“We lack certain qualities in certain areas which we will try and address, but you can never fault the players’ attitude and their willingness to have a go and never give up.”
