Queens Park Rangers owner Tony Fernandes has rubbished claims that he is preparing to sack manager Harry Redknapp after starting the season off with back-to-back losses.
QPR, who are priced at 5.50 to finish bottom of the Premier League this season, earned promotion back to the top flight via the play-off’s under Redknapp but they have failed to carry any momentum through to the new season.
Hull City picked up a 1-0 opening day win at Loftus Road before Redknapp’s former club Tottenham sealed an impressive 4-0 victory at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Despite to slow start, Fernandes insists that Redknapp still has his full backing and he is confident in his ability to beat relegation this term.
The Airline tycoon went as far as confirming that he was ready to enter in to talks with the 67-year-old over a new deal with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Fernandes said: “Me and Harry have been in discussions. It’s something I’ve always wanted – stability. There was always an intention to renew Harry’s [contract].”
Fernandes also revealed that the newly promoted side are looking to do some more business before the close of the transfer window on Monday.
Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy is one target that Fernandes is keen to secure, although he admitted he has not been working on the deal personally.
He added: “Not something I’ve been working on, but we are interested in him, but at the right price and if it doesn’t work out then it doesn’t work out.”
