Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has refused to take risks with Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of his side’s tie against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.

The Bavarians will travel to Madrid ahead of the first leg of the semi-final clash, with Ronaldo doubtful due to a knee injury.

Ronaldo hasn’t played since April 2, when he picked up the problem in Madrid’s 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund at the quarter-finals stage.

Since picking up the injury, he missed the second leg against Dortmund and last week’s 2-1 Copa del Rey final win over Barcelona.

Ancelotti received a boost on Monday when Ronaldo returned to training but the former Chelsea boss has refused to risk his fitness ahead of the final few weeks of the season.

“Cristiano trained normally today, he’s trained well in the last few days and tomorrow he’s going to have more tests and then we’ll make our decision,” Ancelotti told a press conference.

“If everyone is everyone is certain he can play without any problems at all, then of course he will play. I am confident he will play, but we’re going to make the decision tomorrow.

“If there’s any risk of a relapse he won’t play. We have to remember that this tie is not going to be decided tomorrow. We may be able to gain an advantage from the home leg, but the really decisive game is next Tuesday in Munich.”

Bayern Munich are the 1.64 favourites to reach the final with Dafabet, with Madrid priced at 2.38.
