Brendan Rodgers is eagerly awaiting the visit of Aberdeen to Celtic Park on Saturday after resting some of his star names for the win over Ross County.

The Hoops eventually put four past County at Dingwall on Wednesday to move seven points clear of second-placed Aberdeen.

Patrick Roberts scored early on while Stuart Armstrong netted in the 83rd minute before substitutes Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele both struck in added time.

Rodgers made eight changes to his starting team from the weekend League Cup win over Rangers.

Emilio Izaguirre, Cristian Gamboa, Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie, Liam Henderson and Leigh Griffiths along with Armstrong and Roberts all came in.

Skipper Scott Brown, fresh from becoming a dad for the third time on Tuesday, was amongst those left out along with influential duo Sinclair and Dembele.

Rodgers is happy to have freshened things up ahead of Aberdeen’s first visit to Glasgow this season. Saturday’s clash will be a dress rehearsal for next month’s League Cup decider.

“They will be fresh for the game at the weekend,” said Rodgers. “That was the whole plan for tonight. “So in terms of that it could not have gone any better.

The game was played at a real good tempo and intensity. Every single one of them is totally fit. They are all fit.”

Rodgers paid tribute to the players that came in against Ross County while he also had praise for the home side. He is expecting another tough examination against Derek McInnes’ side at Celtic Park.

“I thought the players who came in delivered and were outstanding. But it was a tough game, Ross County are one of the best teams we have played and we know it will be a tough one on Saturday,” he added.

Celtic are 1.02 to win the Scottish Premiership title this season, while Aberdeen can be backed at 19.00.
