Roma’s new loan signing Wojciech Szczesny insists his focus is entirely with the Italian club and the goalkeeper says the goal is to win trophies this season.

The Poland international recently moved to the Stadio Olimpico for the 2015/16 campaign after falling down the pecking order at Arsenal in the previous term.

Colombian David Ospina was the number choice in between the sticks last season after some questionable performances were witnessed by Szczesny.

The arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea this summer has added more competition for places and the former Blue is expected to be the regular starter, having left Stamford Bridge due to the lack of first-team opportunities.

The loan exit of Szczesny has cast doubts over his long-term future at the Emirates but Arsene Wenger insists the Polish shot-stopper will be welcomed back.

Roma’s new arrival is only thinking about the up-coming season in Italy though and is hoping to win some silverware before returning to the Premier League.

“I don’t want to focus on just getting experience here and going back to Arsenal,” he said. “I didn’t come here just to go back to Arsenal after one year.

“I’ve come here to win trophies with AS Roma and I believe that the team is strong enough to do so. I think there’s great potential. I’m here to win games and trophies for this club.”

Roma are priced at 7.50 to win the Serie A this season while defending champions Juventus are firm favourites at 1.53 to retain their title.

The Giallorossi will also be hoping to challenge for European honours and they will once again be featuring in the Champions League, having finished second in the league last time out.
