Striker Romelu Lukaku has joined boss Roberto Martinez in admitting Everton lost their focus in the 3-3 roller-coaster draw at Bournemouth.

The Toffees were 2-0 and then 3-2 up but ultimately had to settle for a point after a late equaliser for the Cherries in the eighth minute of injury time courtesy of a Junior Stanislas header.

The draw saw Everton slip down to ninth place in the Premier League table and Belgian ace Lukaku has told his team-mates to make sure they learn their lesson.

The 22-year-old powerhouse told his club’s website: “You need to be focused. The referee didn’t blow the whistle, so you need to be focused until the last second of the game. We weren’t, they scored the goal and everybody is down.

“But like the manager said after the game, we need to learn from this. As long as the referee didn’t blow the whistle, we needed to stay focused and try to defend the result.

“It’s a good learning moment for us as players because we want to evolve and become a better team.

“The result is not easy to take but we need to move forward and learn from these types of games.”

Everton return to action in the Capital One Cup at Middlesbrough on Tuesday night and are 2.50 to win the quarter-final tie at the Riverside.

Boro, who are flying high in second place in the Championship, are 2.80 with the draw on Teesside at 3.20.
