Scotland manager Gordon Strachan says his side need to be ready for a “different challenge” when they take on Gibraltar in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Sunday at Hampden Park.

The Scots, who last appeared in a major competition back in 1998 at the World Cup, are currently third in Group D after two victories, one draw and a loss.

Despite coming away with nothing, they were impressive in the opening game against world champions Germany who were made to work extremely hard for their 2-1 victory.

Several positives were taken from that performance and the Scots managed to record a 1-0 win against Georgia before drawing 2-2 with group leaders Poland.

A 1-0 success followed against the Republic of Ireland to leave Scotland just three points behind the Poles and only behind second-placed Germany on goal difference.

Spirits are high within the camp and a 1-0 friendly win over Northern Ireland has kept the momentum going for the clash against Gibraltar.

The latter are bottom of the group and have conceded a massive 21 goals in their four games but Strachan insists nothing will be taken for granted in what is a completely new situation.

“This is a different challenge from Germany, but it is a challenge,” he said. “We’ve been in good form over the last year and a half. I’ve got a system in mind, it’s just putting in the right players.”

Scotland face a tough challenge to finish in one of the two automatic qualifying positions, with Poland and Germany favourites to do so, and the Scots are priced at 15.00 to finish top of their group.
