AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has praised the impact made by new coach Vincenzo Montella.

The Rossoneri endured another inconsistent campaign last term, eventually finishing seventh after first Sinisa Mihajlovic and then Cristian Brocchi failed to inspire the side on a regular basis.

Montella has now been given the chance to try and bring success back to the San Siro and has talent to work with, including Donnarumma, who has already established himself as the club’s number one despite being only 17.

The 42-year-old has developed a reputation for ensuring his sides play open and exciting football during his time in charge of the likes of Catania, Fiorentina and Sampdoria, and with no European commitments to worry about he can focus on Serie A.

Ironically, Milan face former boss Mihajlovic’s new side Torino on the opening weekend of the campaign in what could be a hugely entertaining clash.

The goalkeeper says the team have responded well to Montella’s methods while also admitting he is looking forward to next weekend’s visit of I Granata.

“Montella is an excellent coach, we all made ourselves available to him,” he said. “We’re doing well and we hope to start off the championship in a good way.

“Milan-Torino will be a special game. I’ll always have to thank the coach (Mihajlovic), but we must only think about doing well.”

Milan are currently 1.85 to win next Sunday, with the draw 3.30 and Torino priced at 4.33. The Rossoneri are priced at 21.00 to win Serie A, with reigning champions Juventus 1.40 to retain their title.
