New AC Milan boss Sinisa Mihajlovic believes his side could make a genuine run for the Serie A title if they make a couple more signings.

Having been one of both Italian and European football’s leading lights in recent decades, the Rossoneri have suffered a huge slump over the last few years.

This has been mainly down to a lack of investment in an ageing squad but things seem to be changing this summer, with the board desperate to improve their standing after only finishing 10th last season.

Strikers Carlos Bacca and Luiz Adriano are arguably the two biggest names to have arrived, while the appointment of Mihajlovic could also have a huge impact.

With club legends Filippo Inzaghi and Clarence Seedorf both failing to transform Milan’s fortunes, the Serb has now been given a chance to shine following a strong spell at Sampdoria.

The 46-year-old has set his sights on a return to the Champions League via a top three finish, but he also believes that, with a couple of new signings, his side could emerge as title contenders.

“So far it’s positive because we started from scratch changing players, tactics and our working methods,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “We are putting the right elements in the right places with regards to style of football and behaviour. We have taken the right path and will be ready when the games that really matter come along.

“Our main objective is to finish in the top three, but with the squad we’ve got, if we are able to sign another two players then we could aim even higher.”

Milan are currently priced at 13.00 to win Serie A this season, with reigning champions Juventus the current 1.53 favourites to retain their crown.
